Newsletter

Greetings!!!

After a two+ week vacation back to New Mexico to visit family and historic sites, I'M BACK!!! We had a fabulous time, but now it's time to get back in the routine! I start back to work tomorrow (I teach math at Shawswick Middle School), and I will be busier than ever with my job, my hobbies: HHAFFA, dulcimer playing, quilting, hiking/walking, camping, and (oops--almost forgot!!)--my family, so your participation and volunteering is as important as ever!!!

Remember we are all busy, but remember your participation and volunteering allows our organization to show our service members how much they are loved and appreciated! Plan to volunteer and participate every chance you get!!!

We've received two "Thank You"s from service members who received the letter I sent (with 4th of July parade pictures) and the boxes we sent filled with sunflower seeds, peanuts and other goodies! I thought you might like to see highlights:

From Troy Todd:
Nancy and HHAFFA,
Thank you very much for thinking of us and sending the care package and pictures. It's good to know that we are supported no matter where we are and what's going on in the world. We are doing good. It's very hot, it has been 110+ with the majority ofthe days 120deg, for the last couple months. My troops are doing a great job, and just working towards the day we get to come back (whenever that may be) to the best place on earth, US. I enjoyed the pictures, I can't promise, but maybe if I make it back before that time next year Truman and I can come for the parade. He would enjoy that. Truman is my 2 YO baby boy (in case you have not met him), that I miss dearly. He will be 3 YO before I make it home. Anyway, thanks again, and please pass along our thank you to the other members.

Take care and best regards,
CPT Troy Todd
F Co 3/238 ATS Commander

From Dustin Cline:
Nancy,
I just wanted to write and thank you I received the photos of the 4th of July in Bedford it looks as though everyone had a good time. The fourth wasn't really the same here, but we did have some fun no fireworks or anything like that, but we played some horseshoes and had a good meal. I just wanted to say thank you and it is good to have people back home thinking of us. We appreciate all that you do for us.

Respectfully,
SSgt Cline

--Our weekly walk this week is scheduled for Monday at 7 pm at Greenhill Cemetery. I will be unable to make it this week--family obligation--but I'm sure there will be others there. If not, enjoy the solitude!!

--LAST CALL!!! We have been invited to participate in the Oolitic Festival Parade on September 12th. As of today, I have had 3 people say they would like to walk in the parade. If you would like to walk in the parade, or decorate and drive your truck, or fix up a float, please let us know ASAP! If no one else volunteers to participate--we will be unable to enter a unit this year!

--The Persimmon Festival Parade will be held on Saturday, September 26th at 2 pm. We will also need volunteers to ride/walk/decorate/drive their truck in that parade also, IF we are going to enter a unit!

--Our next scheduled HHAFFA Monthly Dinner will be Friday, September 4th at 6 pm at the Cloverleaf Restaurant in Bedford. We enjoy getting together over dinner and enjoy each others' company! Please let me know (RSVP) by Tuesday, September 1st if you will be attending, so that I can make reservations!!

--Our first MOMS (Mothers of Military Servicemembers) and Family Member Meeting of the "new year" will be Monday, August 24th at 6 pm in the HHAFFA office (620 H St). Refreshments and friendship will be served! Please plan to attend if you are a family member of a service member--we are a great support team, for most of us have "been there, done that"!!!

Don't forget to keep us updated on your service member's current address. And, remember, if your service member has a special day--birthday, anniversary, promotion--or has a special need, please let us know! We will organize a card shower to show support! Also remember that HHAFFA is here for our troops and their families back home, but also remember that HHAFFA IS YOU!!!

Rest up! Christmas will be here before you know it! (HHAFFA Christmas activities begin in September/October!!!)

God Bless Our Troops and their families back home!
Nancy Peabody
