Updates

Happy Flag Day!!! I hope you all remembered to fly your flags high and proud! Did you know that Flag Day commemorates the day in 1777 when the United States adopted the red, white and blue flag of our country? The first Flag Day was proposed on June 14, 1861, in Hartford, Conn. A man named George Morris is credited with the idea. Pres. Woodrow Wilson issued a proclamation declaring "Flag Day" in 1916. (I got that info from the Sunday comics!)

Reminders--Our weekly walk this week is scheduled for Monday at 7 pm at Greenhill Cemetery. Each week we will have a different location to meet for our walk. I hope you get a chance to join us! We also do a lot of talking--it's great therapy!!

"Relay For Life" is June 19th and 20th. Contact Kim Johnson at kimberly1055@sbcglobal.net for more information!

The Candlelight Ceremony, in conjunction with the Limestone Heritage Festival, is scheduled for Sunday, June 28th at 9 pm. Please plan to attend to honor our military--past and present. Let's show Lawrence County that we truly "support our troops"! Our guest speaker this year is Deborah Wheelock. She and her son, Jordan, were serving in Iraq at the same time! You can show Deborah, and the many others who have served or are now serving, your appreciation by your attendance that evening!

The 4th of July Parade is set for Saturday, July 4th (sorta makes sense doesn't it??). Let's have so many people there walking (or riding) dressed in red/white/blue that our Unit takes an hour to pass by!!! Let's show our support for our military service members and their families back home. The theme of the parade this year has to do with limestone--a strong foundation. Betsy came up with an excellent theme for our entry:
A Solid Foundation for Our Freedom: The US Military
I'll pass on additional details as I receive them! but PLEASE plan to participate!!!

God Bless Our Troops and their families back home!
Hope to see you soon!
