National Guard Family Assistance
When National Guard troops are on Federal Active Duty (Title 10), families may apply for assistance through the American Red Cross (in Lawrence, Orange, and Martin Counties, that is the Hoosier Hills Chapter, 812-275-5162, 2119 29th St., Bedford - toll free number for Orange and Martin Counties may be found on www.hhredcross.org website under Bloodmobiles). The Red Cross applies to the Army Relief Society who generally authorizes an interest free loan. The Red Cross then writes a check for that amount. Applicants need to fill out a budget for monthly expenses and have a copy of the service member's orders.
National Guard families not on Federal Active duty may apply to the National Guard Family Assistance Program 1-800-237-2850 x3192 Monday through Friday.
